Just got back from Dawn Kinnard's gig in Brixton, and she is incrediblelive. I did'nt realise either that she is so tall.
She sang loads of new songs from her upcoming album, plus Lean To The Glass, Pennsylvania and The Cost Of Love. She also did an Elvis song I had never heard of and her interpretation of the song I Will Survive. She was freaked out as it is one of the first gigs she has done for ages,
She was only an arms length away from me when she came of stage at the end and if I had been with someone I would have probably gone up and spoke to her(or even if she had'ntbeen surounded by people), but I am much to shy for that(and I had a train to catch).
The venue was a small ramshackled little bar- the sort you might find in run down estates, but the atmosphere inside was brilliant, and the other acts(which I had never really heard of) were Gwennie(and her violin friend Cath) -whom were quite good and had a song about cats, whereas everytime she sung the words meawo the audience had to do it back-quite fun. Next up was a young singer Katie Malco, who had a nice voice but I found myself wandering as I was getting impatient for DK.
Last up was Catherine Paver whom a lot of the audience liked and she reminded me a little bit like Cerys with her writing skills and song choices.
At last Dawn was up (pictures to follow) , and like everyone else in the pub she had had her hand stamped to get in(made me laugh).
Well worth the late night and finding out Liverpool were beat again(who cares - I have seen Dawn Kinnard).
